Book Review Tuesday (11/15/16)- This Journal Belongs to Ratchet

Hey everyone! I hope you’re enjoying your November so far! I just finished this book about two days ago, and I definitely enjoyed it! (Do I say “enjoy” too much? I think I do…) Hopefully you’ll like it too. Very original and fun journal format!

This Journal Belongs to Ratchet

Ratchet’s life is not as normal as she wants it to be. She’s homeschooled, her mother is dead, and her dad  is not only  a car repairman- he’s INSANELY protective of the environment and INSANELY against the mayor’s decision to destroy Moss Tree Park. All she wants is to be like everyone else. And the only way she thinks she can do that is by doing two things- going to a “Get Charmed” camp, and learning about her dead mother. After the “Get Charmed” plan fails, she is forced to teach a Go-Cart making class with her father. Can she find out about her mother, help her dad save the park, and still have a normal(ish) life?

This is a fun and fresh read for anyone who likes themes about the environment and being different. Heck, I don’t care that I finished it in a day- it was still great!

Well, bye for now! I’ve got something great up my sleeve today…hehe…

Book Review Tuesday (11/8/16)-Fortune Falls

Hi, everyone!

Because of  all the stressful Presidential Election stuff going on tonight, I encourage you to do three things:

  1. Binge-watch kitten videos.
  2. Listen to relaxing and distracting music.
  3. Read a good book.

You can look at my previous BRT posts to find stuff for #3, and this will be one too.

fortune-falls-goebel.jpg

Fortune Falls

The small town of Fortune Falls is an incredibly special town. Why? Because in Fortune Falls, superstitions are real. So, spotting a black cat or stepping on a sidewalk crack is serious business. The people of Fortune Falls are separated in two- the Luckies and the Unluckies. One of these Unluckies is eleven (soon to be twelve) year old Sadie Bleeker, whose bad luck can’t seem to leave her alone. While hatching a plan to reverse her bad luck, she accidentally breaks a mirror, setting off a seven-year curse. Can she still turn the tides in her favor?

This was a very original and fun book that’s perfect for fans of Upside Down Magic (see Book Review Tuesday, 6/21/16)!

Have a good night, and try not to stress out a lot!

Book Review Tuesday (11/1/16)-Awkward

Hi guys! Happy November and (Day One) of the Day of the Dead! I ate a sugar skull yesterday in Spanish class 💀

Anyway, this was a great graphic novel that pretty much everyone will (and should) love!61yATZrvzjL._SX346_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

Awkward

Peppi Torres is the new kid at Berrybrook Middle School. On her first day, she trips and is noticed by Jaime, who is frequently teased, in the hall, the mean kids start calling her names. So, she has no choice…but to shove Jaime away. Trying to forget about the incident, she joins the school’s art club, and is immediately washed up in their war with the science club. Can the art club stand triumphant over their rival  and get their comic published in the school newspaper? And can she work things out with Jaime?

I’m pretty sure this is the first graphic novel I’ve read since Ghosts (see Book Review Tuesday, 9/20/16), and I liked almost just as much! The art was great, the story was great, the characters were hilarious, and Jaime Thompson looks suspicioulsy like my brother did when he was in 6th Grade…*

To give you a little idea, here’s a section I thought was SUPER FUNNY!

Have a great November!

*I would show his picture from then, but he’d probably murder me a thousand times if I did.

Book Review Tuesday (10/25/16)-The Changelings

Hi everyone, and welcome to the last BRT of October! I hope you guys have a great rest of the month and and AWESOME Halloween!

Don’t you worry, I’ll tell you guys ALL about my costume later.

Anyway, here’s a fun and adventurous book for all you fantasy lovers!

The Changelings

Things are definetely not what they seem for Izzy Doyle. The seemingly normal town she and her family has moved to is definitely the opposite on a closer look. Her neighbor, who is rumored to be a witch, has strange stone-and-leaf  towers outside her front lawn. Then, things take a wicked turn when Izzy’s little sister Hen is lost in the woods, and Izzy stumbles upon a portal to the world of the Fairies. There, she meets a gang of Changelings, who help her discover the fate of her sister- she’s been captured by the Queen of the Fairies! Can they save her before she falls prey to the malicious Queen?

Though I finished it in a day (Hahahaha…I read too fast), this was a book worth reading. Enjoy!

Book Review Tuesday (10/18/16)-Mars Evacuees

Hello everyone! Just another slightly chilly, pretty, aesthetic day in October. Perfect time to…uh…read some sci-fi?

Maybe.

But here you go!

25816908.jpg

(Forgive the pixellation of the cover)

Mars Evacuees

Set about 15 years into the future, where the polar icecaps are encroaching farther and farther south, caused by an alien race that has begun to colonize Earth. Alice Dare (not Alistair, people, get it right) has been chosen, along many other kids in the world, to evacuate to a space station on Mars. Life on the space station is relatively normal (and pretty boring) until…all of the adults mysteriously disappear. Now, Alice and her friends Carl and Josephine are stuck on Mars. Can they survive Mars- and they aliens that could be hiding in every corner?

To tell you the truth, this book was a little slow at first, but trust on the fact that it gets better. Mostly the aliens. But yeah. A great sci-fi read!

Book Review Tuesday (10/11/16)- Going Wild

I was so excited to be able to read this book! I had it on hold for at least 4 months on the kindle library. Great book! Not disappointing!

Going Wild

Charlie’s life isn’t so great right now. She just moved from Chicago to Phoenix, and the last thing she wants is to leave all of her friends there. But when looking through her packages from the move, she finds a mysterious bracelet. None of her friends or family gave it to her. Mistaking it for an ordinary athletic bracelet, she puts it on and takes it to soccer practice. Shortly after, the strangest things begin to happen- she suddenly possesses the speed of a cheetah, the healing powers of a starfish, and the strength of an elephant. Can she keep her powers a secret? And who gave her the bracelet in the first place?

This is an awesome book for animal-lovers and comic-lovers alike! A short but AWESOME read!

Bye for now!

Book Review Tuesday (10/4/16)- Fog Diver (series)

Hello everyone! Introducing the first BRT of October! I finished this two-book series in late September, and enjoyed it a lot. I hope you do too. If you read it, that is. You definetely should.

The Fog Diver

Set in a future where lethal white fumes called the Fog have shrouded the earth, leaving only the  mountain peaks exposed. On the tops, five families battle for space and resources, ruled by the infamous Lord Kodoc. On the very bottom are the junkyards, where those with less resources eek out a living. Chess lives in the junkyard, where he and his crew, Hazel, Swedish and Bea operate a salvage raft to retrieve objects in the fog. Chess is special- he was born with the fog in his eye, allowing him to survive in it. But Lord Kodoc knows this, and he’ll do anything to capture Chess…

The Lost Compass

Chess and his crew have made it to Port Oro, located at the tops of the mountains, without being captured by Lord Kodoc. There, they discover a secret- legend has it that hidden in the Fog is an ancient device that can stop the Fog forever. With Chess, it’ll be easier to find it, but Lord Kodoc also knows this secret…

Like I said, this is a wonderful series, filled with action, heart, and humor! Definetely for sci-fi fans or anyone who loves a good adventure.

Bye!

Book Review Tuesday (9/27/16)-One White Dolphin

Hello, everyone! September went by so fast…

Anyway, here’s your book review. This book was very powerful. A must for all animal lovers!

cvr9781442414488_9781442414488_hr.jpg

Kara lives in a small town on the coast of the UK. Her mother disappeared when she was younger, and she lives with her father, aunt, and half-sister Daisy. Fishing has been hard, and the fishermen hope to dredge the reef. But Kara and her family, in honor of her animal-loving mother, want to protect the reef for future generations. So when an albino dolphin calf washes ashore, Kara and the others must protect the reef not only for the sake of their village-but so that the calf might survive.

Like I said, super powerful, touching, and heartwarming. Love! 🐬

Bye, and have a happy rest of your September!

Book Review Tuesday (9/20/16)- Ghosts

I promised a few months prior that I would review this book. (Back then, I didn’t know that it would come out on Sept. 12. It was like, June or something). So, here’s your review! This is probably my favorite graphic novel of Raina Telgemeier’s. ❤️👻

ghosts-front-cover

(HALLELUJAH! I JUST FIGURED OUT HOW TO ADJUST THE SIZE! Madeline, you idiot…*face palms*)

Ghosts

Cat never wanted to move to Bahia de la Luna. Her family wouldn’t have done it either, if not for Cat’s little sister, who has cystic fibrosis. But when they move, Cat and Maya discover a shocking secret- this town is full of ghosts. Lots and LOTS of ghosts. Though Maya is eager to see them, Cat’s terrified for herself-and Maya. Can she overcome her fear while keeping her sister safe?

As I said, this is a wonderful book. Highly recommended for, well, everyone! Bye for now!

Book Review Tuesday (9/5/16)- Serafina and the Twisted Staff

Hello, and happy September! This is the second book in the Serafina series, and it just came out this July. I’d definetely say that the first book was better than this (see BRT 4/26/16), but it was still good all the same.

serafina.jpg

(Why do these cover images always have to be so BIG? And, if you make them smaller, they’re so tiny…#firstworldproblems)

Weeks after the Man in the Black Cloak is defeated, a man named Detective Grathan comes to investigate the case at Biltmore Estate. But now, a growing threat that may mean the end of all life in and outside of Biltmore, is coming. Serafina suspects that the detective, as well as  the suspicious Lady Rowena, may have something to do with it. Can Serafina save Biltmore-again-from an evil that may surpass the Man in the Black Cloak?

Like I said, the first book was better, but that doesn’t mean that this was bad. So, Serafina fan or not, this is a good read! Just read the first book first, obviously. Ciao!
