“Go to madelinetodd.com…they’ve got a new thing called…uh… FR E SH F AN AR TS…*wheezy laughter*”

Yep, I’ve got some FRESH FAN ARTS for you guys!

I haven’t really posted any of my art since late June (oops), and I feel like I’ve improved a lot since then, what with the art class at my school and just a little more experience in general. I’m excited to share some of these with you guys, I hope you enjoy them!

Well, thank you for sticking around long enough to see more of my art and endure the deluge of book reviews! Once I get some more done, I will definitely post some more. Have a nice day, and stay safe!

Book Review Tuesday (7/31/18)-The Loneliest Girl in the Universe

Hi, fellow bibliophiles, and welcome to this week’s Book Review Tuesday!

Alright, I have two important announcements before I get to this week’s review.

1-Happee Birthdae to Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, and the great Queen J.K. Rowling!  I had a chocolate frog today, and we’ve got some great HP decor all over the house (Moaning Myrtle in the toilet, Death Eater wanted posters, assorted chocolate frog cards, etc.).

WOOOOOOOOOHOOO.gif

WOOO!

2-Now for the bad news. I won’t be able to do a Book Review Tuesday next week (August 7), as I will be on vacation in Chicago. I’ll definitely post about that once I get home. I’m pretty excited to go!

Now, let’s get back on topic. This book was recommended to me by EpicReads, and they gave it LOADS of hype, so I figured it would be worth a try. I later borrowed it at the library (I’m returning it today), and though it didn’t *quite* live up to every inch of the hype, it was definitely a noteworthy novel.

Enjoy the review!

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe

The year is 2067, and humanity has sent ships to the far reaches of the galaxy in search of a habitable planet. Romy Silvers has spent her whole life on the starship Infinity with her astronaut parents. But after her parents die in a mysterious accident, Romy is completely alone, adrift in space. Now the commander of the Infinity, she now has to wait  for years to find a planet, without any human contact, save for messages from NASA and her therapist back on Earth. Just when she thought that her situation could get no better, she receives a message: another ship, the Eternity, is on the lookout for a planet as well, and they may cross paths. Romy is overjoyed by the promise of being with other people after such a long time in complete isolation. She begins communication with the Eternity’s commander, who will only refer to himself as J. But beneath the gentle, casual banter of their emails lie dark secrets best kept hidden…

On my rating scale, I think that The Loneliest Girl in the Universe would probably be about a 7 to a 7.5 (a 3.5 by most people’s 5-star standards). Very well thought-out and crafted. The writing was gripping, unpredictable, and suspenseful, and I’ll totally admit that at some points, I’d just finish reading a paragraph and stare at it like:

giphy.gif

MY GOD, SOME OF THOSE PLOT TWISTS, THOUGH…

So, in conclusion, not like, the best book in the universe, but still a really interesting and original novel. It makes me wonder what I would do in a situation akin to Romy’s-completely isolated, with hardly any human contact. I mean, I treasure my alone time, but years and years of almost total isolation…JESUS CHRIST. It’s hard to think about.

Have a great rest of your day, and keep on reading! I’ll be back with a review and more soonish! 😉

Again, I’m out of clever ways to say that I’ve got a bunch more fan arts

Ah! I forgot to mention in my last post…

Despite my lack of a Book Review Tuesday this week, I do have LOADS of fan arts for you guys! I’m so happy to share them all with you, and I hope you enjoy…as well as survive the tidal wave of nerdiness, of course.

Without further ado, behold…fan arts.

Well, that’s it for this batch of fan arts! This summer holds endless possibilities, and I hope to fill my sketchbook up with more and more art! Until next time!

Confessions of a Potterhead*

I have a confession and something of a theory rolled into one.

I’ll admit to this, and I’m sure a lot of you Potterheads out there can too, but…despite my Hufflepuff status, heck, I’ve owned tons of Gryffindor stuff since I’ve gotten into HP. To be exact, some socks, one of Hermione’s Gryffindor shirts from the movies, and a “Books Turn Muggles into Wizards” shirt with the Gryffindor colors. Honestly, I think a good portion of Potterheads, Gryffindor or not, have owned at least one piece of Gryffindor paraphernalia in their lifetime.

Think about it. Gryffindor really is, for lack of a better description, the “central house” of the Harry Potter series. It’s the one everyone remembers when people mention the books.  A good percentage of the characters, be it major or minor, are Gryffindors. And the common traits of your friendly neighborhood Gryffindor-courage, chivarly, daring, bravery-are what many of us aspire to be. And heck, loads of us wanted nothing more than to be Gryffindors, didn’t we? We all just ignored the fact the Peter Pettigrew was a dark wizard and that all Gryffindors were perfect Heroes™.

Plus, we’ve all got at least one or two characters we adore from Gryffindor. I’ve always had a preference for Hermione Granger. She’s been one of my favorite fictional characters since the beginning. Then there’s the Weasleys, the Marauders, Neville…the list goes on and on. A lot of my Potterhead friends were also sorted into Gryffindor.

giphy.gif

You know who you are, guys. I love you.

But, of course, I acknowledge the fact this doesn’t apply to all of you. Maybe you’re a hardcore Slytherin who wants nothing to do with Gryffindor. Anything. Maybe red and gold just isn’t your thing. (It isn’t mine, but I guess I can pull it off sometimes.) But either way, every Potterhead is different. And I love you all.

HARRY POTTER! Did you put your name in the Goblet of Fan Arts?!?!?

Yep, that’s right-I’ve got lots more fan arts!

Most of these are HP related, as I did them soon after my Pottermore sorting. I also got some new, more skin-tone color pens on Wednesday, so I’ve been testing those out a bit. Enjoy!

I hope you liked my fan arts! I’ll be back tomorrow with the first Book Review Tuesday of May 2018! See you later, and have a great rest of your day!

‘PUFF PRIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE

I haven’t really been sure about my actual Hogwarts house for a while. I’d taken some knockoff sorting hat quizzes here and there, and I’d gotten everything except for Slytherin. Huh.

anigif_sub-buzz-26152-1467330760-2.gif

About three days ago, I eventually decided that the Pottermore quiz would probably be the most reliable out of the menagerie of quizzes around the internet.  I was a little surprised by my results (I thought I’d be Ravenclaw)…but nonetheless…

I am now a proud HUFFLEPUFF!

source.gif

Hey, I kinda work the Tonks-ish hair, right? She probably had it teal at least once in her life…

Dontcallmenymphadora.gif

I’ve always had kind of a soft spot for her. Before I read Order of the Phoenix, one of my parents showed me a part of the movie with her in it. I think it was initially because she had pink hair (and I was still well into my pink phase). And man, I just thought she was the COOLEST! I even dressed up as her for a Harry Potter birthday party, complete with sprayed-on pink hair. I think my mom bought a choker for that costume, too. That was really fun.

Anyway, after reading some more on Pottermore, I am growing ever happier upon being sorted into Hufflepuff! I mean really-we’ve hardly produced any dark wizards, we’re loyal, protective, and kind, we’ve got an adorable mascot…

I WANT TO BOOP HIS LIL NOSE OMG

…and we’ve got Newt Scamander and his wonderful hair.

newt-scamander-gif.gif

…I-I really wanna touch his hair…

I really hope that’s not just me. Just look at that glorious foof. GAH.

In short, I am so glad to have been sorted into Hufflepuff! Now all I’ve gotta do is wait for it to get cold outside so I can order a Hufflepuff scarf…

Sir! We’re detecting a massive amount of Fan Arts emerging from hyperspace!

*Death Star noises*

Yeah, that’s right, I’ve got some more FAN ARTS! WOOT WOOT!

Be warned, most of it’s just Star Wars…because that’s how my brain works. Yep. Enjoy!

Well, I hope you enjoyed my geeky barrage of ink-pen! See you soon!
