Hey everyone! I hope you guys have had an AWESOME April! I have-I mean COME ON. THE LAST JEDI TRAILER CAME OUT!!!!! *happy squealing* I got Rogue One for Easter too, and I just re-watched it on Sunday!!! *more happy squealing, followed by loud sobbing* Anyway, here is your last book of April 2017!

Gossamer

Where do dreams and nightmares come from, and how?

Littlest One is a tiny creature, the apprentice of Thin Elderly. Their job is to touch objects, gather memories from them, and transfer them into the waiting minds of humans in the form of dreams. Nightmares, on the other hand, are produced by Sinisteeds, dark, horse-like creatures who twist good dreams into bad. Littlest One already shows promise-her touch is featherlight-gossamer, as Thin Elderly puts it. The humans they are assigned to are an old woman and her surrogate son, who is staying with her over the summer so he can be healed of his anger and damaged past. But little do they know, someone is watching over them, intertwining their lives in ways they could not fathom…

Though it was pretty short (144 pages), I loved this book! It was so sweet, imaginative, and heartwarming. There’s also a play based on it, apparently, and from the pictures I’ve seen, it looks pretty cool.

Also, on the subject of the Sinisteeds, when Lowry described them, I immdiately thought of…

Book Review Tuesday (4/18/17)-Forget Me Not

Hey everyone! I hope you had a happy Easter/Passover/whatever it is you celebrate, and a happy Spring as well! I finished this book fairly recently (something else happened on that same day, which I’ll tell you about later), and I loved it! I know I say this every single #$%*ing time, but I hope you enjoy it too. Really, I do.

Forget Me Not

Calliope June is moving to yet another town because her mother broke up with yet another boyfriend. Calliope is sick of moving, and now she has to go to a new school. She must face the struggles of an ordinary kid and then some-she has Tourette’s syndrome. Calliope often finds it hard to control her various tics, be it humming, clapping, making faces, and occasionally frog croaking, which causes her to be the target of mean jokes and bullying. Only Jinsong, her next-door neighbor, sees her as she really is. Will Calliope truly be accepted?

This novel was absolutely wonderful, from the switching perspectives of Calliope and Jinsong (one was in verse, the other was normal. Cool, huh?), and the imaginative voices of both characters. Forget Me Not is a success!

Book Review Tuesday (4/11/17)-The Planet Thieves

Hey everyone! I hope you’re having an awesome and bookish April so far! I’ve gotten to 94 books on my Goodreads 2017 reading challenge (don’t judge; I just read REALLY fast), and this book is one of them. I hope you enjoy!

The Planet Thieves

Mason Stark and his fellow cadets on the spaceship SS Egypt expected their routine trip to space to be normal. But, everything goes awry when the ship is attacked by the Tremist-an alien race set on taking the planet Nori-Blue, a potential contender for human colonization. The assault leaves much of the crew and the captain of the Egypt dead, and most of the survivors captured, so Mason and those still remaining must go on a dangerous mission to save their crew-and their planet.

If you guys remember my reviews of Randoms (series) and Mars Evacuees, and have read one or both of them, then you’ll like this book a lot. It was definitely a very well-crafted sci-fi! There is a sequel, and I haven’t read it yet, but I probably will get to that at some point.

Hey everyone! I hope you’re having a great April and had a wonderful Spring Break! I certainly did. Anyway, here’s your BRT for today!

Some Kind of Happiness

Finley Hart has always been a little…different. She’s always in her head, writing stories of the mystical land of Everwood in her notebook. Over the summer, Finley has to stay at her grandparent’s house so her parents can work out “some problems” (that they don’t want to admit they have). But, her grandparent’s house hides a secret-Everwood exists, and it’s just behind it. She discovers that her beloved Everwood is dying, and, along with her cousins, must save it.

I’ll admit, I was a little suspicious of this book. I had kind of a meh experience with Foxheart (another of Claire Legrands’s novels), so I hoped that I wouldn’t have one similar to that with Some Kind of Happiness. I was not disappointed! It was a very original, magical, and imaginative book!

I’m back, everyone! I hope you’re having a great spring break so far! I had SUCH and amazing time at the Grand Canyon. Absolutely breathtaking. The pictures don’t do it justice. BEAUTY!!!

Book Review Tuesday (3/21/17)-Short

Hey everyone!

I know that I’ve only been posting book reviews on here lately, so I’m sorry. I normally have a variety of stuff I post here. But, I just haven’t really had the time. I’ll do some more stuff later, I promise. *Hamilton voice* Just you wait, just you wait, just you wait…

Also, this will be the last BRT of March, because next Tuesday, I will be on the 10-hour drive back from Grand Canyon national park for spring break! I’ll definetely post something for that. I’m so excited! Anyway, here’s your book review for today.

Short

Julia is shorter than most kids her age, which has some disadvantages-but also an advantage. Her being short is the reason that she’s been cast in the local university’s performance of The Wizard of Oz. Julia is excited, but has never seen herself as a performer. But during the play, she begins to see herself in a new light. And, after meeting one of the other fellow munchkins-a woman named Olive who has dwarfism-Julia begins to realize that being short isn’t so bad. But, the director of the play still has plans for her…

I really liked this book, and I knew it was going to be good because I already read and liked Counting by Sevens (I haven’t reviewed it, and I don’t know if I will. It’s been a long time since I’ve read it). I’d recommend it to everyone who loves a good, contemporary novel and for, well, short people!

The Girl who Could Not Dream

Sophie has a strange condition-she is physically unable to dream. And if she does dream, the thing from her dreams come alive. This is pretty ironic, seeing as her parents own a shop where dreams are sold in bottles. But when Sophie’s parents mysteriously disappear and some of the nightmares go missing, it’s up to Sophie, her friend Ethan, Monster, her pet dream-creature, and some other dream creatures to find the dream robber!

I absolutely loved this book! It was super original and fun. Also, Monster was great. He’s so sassy!!!

Hello everyone, and happy March! Yay!!!! 🐸🦋🌱🌧

I’ve been making frequent trips to my local library lately, and I’ve read loads of good book this year (as well as reading two of my favorite series, The Search for WondLa series and the Monstrous series). So many books, so little time to review! Anyway, this was one of my favorites, and it featured in a recent Instagram post I did, which was a picture of it on top of another book with a mug of hot chocolate (it was super snowy that day) on top of that. The caption was “This is the life…”

Anyway, I present to you…the first BRT of March 2017! Wheeeeeeee!

Wonder at the Edge of the World

Hallelujah “Lu” Wonder (her father named her that because that’s what he said when she was born. Her sister is “Praise Be”), a girl in 19th century Kansas, wants to take after her father when she grows older. She wants to travel the globe, collecting strange artifacts and discovering new places. But, her father has a secret-he hid all of the treasures from across the world in a cave because a navy captain who accompanied him on one of his expeditions, is after them. Particularly, the Medicine Head, a shrunken head with mysterious powers. Lu must take the Medicine Head to the only place where no one can reach it and its powers can affect no one-Antarctica, the very place her father discovered. Can she, along with the runaway slave Eustace, get the Medicine Head to Antarctica in time?

This book was absolutely WONDERful (ba-dum CRASHHHHH), and I would recommend it for people who love adventure, whales (you’ll see, just be patient), and strong female heroines.

Hello, everyone! Hope you’re enjoying your last day of February! (Thank god it isn’t a Leap Year…I HATE ‘EM. THAT’S THE WHOLE REASON THAT I HAD THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL ON MY BIRTHDAY. CURSE LEAP YEARS!!!)

ANYWAY…

Here is my promised review of the sequel to Randoms (see BRT, 2/14/17). It is JUST AS GOOD as book 1, which is seriously saying something, so yeah! Here you go!

Rebels

After returning to Earth after his last great adventure in space, Zeke Reynolds is transferred to a school in Boulder, Colorado. But, he’s got an unexpected hitchhiker-an artificial intelligence in his head by the name of “Smelly”. Pesky as he is, Smelly manages to help get Zeke back to space. Why? Zeke and his friends have another mission to complete. And this time, the Confederation of United Planets-and the lives of his friends-may hang in the balance.

LOVE. LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE. And did I mention love?

If you read Randoms (and this book, hopefully), I SINCERELY hope you enjoyed it.

Book Review Tuesday (2/21/17)-Furthermore

Hello, everyone!!! I hope you’re having a wonderful February, as well as not eating TOO too much candy and avoiding getting some form of obesity or diabetes because of V-Day candy. 😉

I bought this particular book last Saturday at my local bookstore, and I enjoyed it a lot! Very whimsical and fun. Here’s the review!

Furthermore

Alice Alexis Queensmeadow (and her life) is anything but normal. She was born completely devoid of pigment, except for her brown eyes, in a town bursting with color. Her father left Alice and her mother when she was nine, taking only a wooden ruler along with him. And, she seems to have no magical powers, either. But she does have one thing-determination. Determination, that is, to bring her father home. To find him, she must travel to the land of Furthermore, a world full of twists, turns, and nothing predictable. Can she, along with her guide Oliver, retrieve Father and come back alive?

This book was reminiscient of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (hey-the main characters are both named Alice…Coincidence? I think not…JUST KIDDING! HAH!), and it was full of lively, unexpected twists and just overall fun. A super entertaining read!

As I promised, I’ll review the second Randoms book in the weeks to come (which, by the way, was AWESOME), as well as anything else I feel is worthy of my blog! Until next time, my peeps!
