Weekly Update: June 22-28, 2020

Happy Sunday, bibliophiles! I hope today finds you in good spirits and health.

Now that June has almost come to a close, I felt like it’s gone by strangely quickly. It feels like it should be the middle of the month, but here we are, and it’s almost July. But that isn’t to say that I haven’t enjoyed the month; despite the strangeness of the times, I’ve had a good start to my summer, even though I’ve spent the bulk of it inside.

For the most part, I’ve had a great week. We went hiking on Monday for a belated Father’s Day excursion, and also that day, I FINISHED THE FIRST DRAFT OF MY WIP! This is the first of my ideas that I haven’t abandoned midway and finished all the way, so I’ve given myself a pat on the back for managing that. I didn’t quite know what to do with myself, but I ultimately decided that for July’s Camp NaNoWriMo, I’ll work on a short story. Stephen King advised that you should wait a few months (at least) before getting to editing/second drafts after you finish, so I’ll work on said short story, and maybe get back to some of my other WIPs in the meantime.

Other than that, I made some progress on my Iron Giant puzzle, watched Memento, watched a few more episodes of Fargo (nearly done with season 3…)and went on my first excursion to my favorite bookstore since the pandemic started. I got a copy of The Sound of Stars and The Kingdom of Back (autographed copy!), and I’m so excited to read them both. I’ve had an…okayish reading week; I didn’t read as much because it took me longer to read Kingsbane at a whopping 608 pages. I’ve enjoyed everything that I read, but I didn’t read anything terribly memorable.

Oh, and the stickers that came with my preorder of Aurora Burning finally came in the mail, and I love them! Both my laptop case and my current sketchbook both look like the entire Aurora Cycle fandom vomited on them, and I have zero problem with that. (…no pun intended…)

Happy Sunday, bibliophiles!

First of all, Happy Father’s Day! I don’t know where I’d be without my dad–both in terms of life and in terms of quality music and comics–so for everything he’s done, I am eternally grateful.

It’s so strange to think that June is almost over. It seems like this month has gone by in a blur; mentally, I’m still on the first week of June. But aside from that, I’ve had a good week. I started out with a mediocre batch of books, but it picked up once I read one of my eARCs. I also went on my first out-in-public comic shop run, and that’s always super fun. Phoebe Bridgers also came out with her new album, and I’ve loved it so far! And, I just got to 300 pages on my WIP! I’m writing the last chapter, and my first draft should be done in a matter of days…

Happy Sunday, bibliophiles!

All things considered, it’s been an…alright week. There hasn’t been anything super eventful, other than J.K. Rowling testing me ([screams] TRANS RIGHT ARE HUMAN RIGHTS, WHEN WILL YOU LEARN–). I’ve received a few more eARCs (more reviews to come next week!), but I checked Edelweiss yesterday, and I’d gotten declined 4 (four) eARCs all at once…whee…

But hey, I’ve just started out. And plus, I still have a bunch of pending requests, so things could start looking up next week.

My reading week’s been fairly hit-or-miss–it’s swung between four star and two star reads, for the most part, but I’ve found a few that I enjoyed. As far as writing goes, I’ve just finished writing the climax for my WIP (!!!), and I’m close to 300 pages! It’s the most I’ve ever written, so that’s been crazy. I’m also working away at an Iron Giant puzzle, which has given me a primal urge to go back and watch it again.

Happy Sunday, bibliophiles!

Man, after last week’s reading, I just SPED UP for some reason this week, and I read almost double the amount that I did last week. Part of it’s probably due to the fact that I read several books that were on the shorter side, but I just found it sort of odd.

Adding onto that, I think this is the most I’ve posted in one week. Partially because I’ve been starting to review the eARCs that I’ve gotten so far, but since I have a few more to review, so expect more such momentum next week…wheeeeee…

200,000 units are ready with a million more well on the way Blank ...

I got approved for two more eARCs (4 so far) and I’ve been declined 3 [sad harmonica noises], but I’ve requested a bunch, so we’ll see what happens…

Other than that, it’s been a fairly nice week–warm weather, a bit of drawing, some writing, and I watched Rope. (There is absolutely nothing heterosexual about that movie, and I love it.)

Happy Sunday bibliophiles!

The first week of summer has been…interesting. I didn’t have as productive of a reading week (only three books finished), but all of the books I read were great, even if one of them was a re-read. The news has been deeply overwhelming in the last few days, so I’m trying to hit the balance of being informed but not getting myself overtly worked up. And as always, BLACK LIVES MATTER.

On that subject, please consider signing the petition linked below to arrest the three other officers involved in the murder of George Floyd. (One officer has been arrested already).

PETITION/JUSTICE FOR BIG FLOYD

On the upside, though, I watched The Life Aquatic (underrated!), and I signed up for Edelweiss! I requested 8 ARCs, and they’re all still pending, so we’ll see if I can get any of them…

Happy Sunday, everyone!

I’m finally back on my semi-regular schedule after finals week, and now it’s finally summer! REJOICE!

Other than that, my week’s been alright. Besides my return to blogging, I’ve been doing a lot of drawing, I got to re-read a good book that I haven’t picked up in a few years, I listened to a lot of good music, and I also watched Pan’s Labyrinth. [gross sobbing] The weather’s been warming up, and even though we’re still inside, it’s shaping up to be a good summer, I think. Plus, not one, but TWO of my library holds came in yesterday, so I think next week should be a productive reading week as well! (And, I got two people to read Aurora Rising, so that’s always a success.)

Happy Sunday, and Happy Mother’s Day! I know I don’t know where I would possibly be without my mom, and I am so grateful to have someone as special as her in my life. 💗

All things considered, it’s actually been a pretty great week for me! I had a lovely May 4th/Star Wars day, and I rewatched The Empire Strikes Back that night. I’ve had a relatively easy online school week, the weather’s been warm, I’ve had loads of fun writing (everything’s more fun once you launch everyone into space), watched Fight Club (SO well-written), and rediscovered a song that I hadn’t listened to in ages. I also got Aurora Burning in the mail, and read it twice. I couldn’t have asked for a better sequel. Even though the ending absolutely WRECKED me. I’ll save all that for my review next week, so stay tuned! 😉

And now, I’m at 100 books on my Goodreads challenge!

Happy Sunday, bibliophiles!

It’s been like this for a while, but the feeling of all of the weeks blurring together has really started to set in. Things that feel miles away only happened a matter of weeks ago, and the few dates I’ve either dreaded or have been really excited for have really started to creep up. It’s a quarantine blessing and a curse, really.

That being said, other than the general monotony of online school, it’s been a good week. I listened to a lot of music (both actually new and new to me), read some good books, and reached–and surpassed–my Camp NaNo WriMo goal of 110,00 words! I also finished Fargo [incomprehensible screeching] and watched Rear Window, and the weather’s been wonderfully spring-y. Can’t complain. And there’s only TWO DAYS until Aurora Burning arrives! I preordered it a few months back, so hopefully I’ll get it in the mail sometime next week…

Happy Sunday, bibliophiles! I hope today finds you safe and healthy.

Whew…not sure why, but this week just flew by, for no reason in particular. Just…[Thanos snap] like that. Bam. No rhyme or reason to it.

And now, I’m dealing with the consequences of last year’s highly successful reading week. After finishing Hellboy II: The Art of the Movie, I DNF’d not one, but TWO books in a row, and after that, I haven’t read anything higher than three stars this week. Oof…

Hey, at least we got more new Car Seat Headrest this week, their new album comes out in   less than a week, and Aurora Burning is almost here, too! At least I’ve got that to look forward to in the next few weeks. I’ve also been watching Fargo (almost done with season 1), watched Dogma (ABSOLUTELY HYSTERICAL), and got to 200 pages on my WIP for Camp NaNo WriMo! I now only have 2,000 words left until I reach my goal of 110,000 words!

Happy Sunday, bibliophiles! As always, I hope you’re all safe, sane, and healthy. And please, STAY HOME. FOR ALL OF OUR SAKES, STAY HOME. 💗

This week began fairly normally; it had its ups and downs until about Thursday afternoon or Friday, and from there, things started to really pick up. I read a whole score of great books, watched Darjeeling Limited (Wes Anderson is always a win), there’s new Car Seat Headrest, goofed around on my guitar, and did a lot of drawing! And on this leg of Camp NaNoWriMo, I finally got to 100,000+ WORDS! WOOOOHOOO!
